HBO+EMTB was the winner of a design competition for this new commercial office building located in Canberra’s CBD. The development, adjacent the Australian National University campus, offers exceptionally efficient A Grade office space.
The concept explores a seriously ‘urban’ character in a sustainable solution that will set the benchmark for years. Key to the design is an ‘urban room’ that interfaces between the building and street, drawing the city and people together in a shared experience. With its distinguished entrance, high performance glass façade, public art and café, the space provides a distinctive urban environment for both commerce and leisure.
Internally, the development offers neutral, adaptable space capable of supporting contemporary and future workplaces. Going beyond a simple hierarchical approach to space standards the architecture allows for the implementation of ‘distributed workplaces’ that show productivity gains in addition to increased staff satisfaction. This approach achieves significant real estate reductions for tenants in conjunction with increased productivity.
