L3 Bridge, Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Australia
HBO+EMTB Design Director, Lionel Glendening designed the Powerhouse Museum in his role as Principal Architect, PWDNSW.
The Powerhouse Museum, a major cultural institution established through the adaptive re-use of the Ultimo Powerstation, set new standards for public accessibility, interaction and awareness. The collections are housed in a variety of exceptional spaces both new and part of the original Powerstation.
The museum has attracted international review and many architectural and tourism awards including the Sir John Sulman Medal, the President’s Award, the Belle Interiors Award and was a finalist in the Sir Zelman Cowen Award.
HBO+EMTB has subsequently undertaken further projects at the Museum including the design of the L3 Bridge. The bridge structure explores a strong sculptural form, providing access to a new gallery through the existing heritage fabric.
