HBO+EMTB Pacific Highway Design Awarded

21 November 2008

HBO+EMTB’s Urban & Landscape Design studio received a commendation at the Planning Institute of Australia’s 2008 NSW Awards for the Brunswick to Yelgun Pacific Highway Upgrade.

The project sets a new urban design benchmark for the Pacific Highway Upgrade Program.

Improvements to the ten kilometre stretch of highway were commissioned by the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority and constructed by the Abigroup working with SMEC engineering.

Our award-winning design includes a landmark, serpentine pedestrian bridge, an elegant new multi-lane vehicle bridge spanning the Brunswick River and contextually sensitive landscaping that considers a range of ecological issues relating to vegetation and wildlife.

The PIA judging panel citation noted
The work is a tribute to the high design standards maintained by the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority over many decades….the judges who are familiar with this section of roadway unanimously agree that it is an excellent piece of infrastructure design.

The new roadway follows a strategic route that is sensitive to the amenity and needs of residential communities and townships. It further demonstrates HBO+EMTB's commitment to delivering humanistic and environmentally responsible design solutions.
