West Wallsend Residential Estate, NSW Australia

This masterplan for a 580 ha site former quarry site owned by XStrata in Newcastle, was completed for Austcorp by HBO+EMTB.

Key tasks included identifying the major constraints to the development of the site, establishing development priorities and principles, establishing the area capable of urban development, the open space networks and linkages and the neighbourhood precincts.The team developed specific detailed design objectives for these precincts and one precinct was devloped in detail.

Principles of ecologically sustainable development (ESD), Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) and residential house designs, were central to the land use planning decisions and principles adopted for the indicative master planning and precinct planning exercises undertaken.
