HBO+EMTB was commissioned by this high-profile financial institution to undertake various interior design projects across the Asia Pacific region which included the design of their Hong Kong office. Accommodating over 1,000 staff across six floors, the new environment adopts the imperatives of the client’s corporate accommodation standards, to create a healthy, technologically-enabled, flexible workplace.
The client floor incorporates the main arrival, reception, client-facing operations and a commercial kitchen. A refined palette of black and grey conveys credibility and authority, with strong geometry and the use of glazing, metal, and stone. The remaining typical floors are consistent in space-planning and finishes, with energetic colour accents, which provide distinctive way-finding.
Staff amenities include a generous ‘hub’, adjacent the lift arrival, facilitating informal interaction and providing dedicated meeting spaces. An integrated staircase provides vertical connection between floors, further reinforcing the client’s requirement for a collaborative workplace community.
Feng shui considerations were accommodated from the selection of finishes and striking use of black, to support the positive qi of the abstract design element, which coils through each of the six floors.
Environmental responsibility and the demand for a healthy workplace were also significant project drivers. HBO+EMTB worked closely with the project’s LEED consultant, designing to achieve Gold certification under the Commercial Interiors rating tool.
In addition to the Hong Kong project for this financial institution, HBO+EMTB has completed works for their Perth and Auckland offices.
