MultiFunctionPolis, South Australia
This project consisted of four components: the concept study, feasibility study, urban design study and development controls.
New forms of urban development were devised to facilitate and maintain the latent synergistic relationships between the new technologies targeted by the MFP. Medium to high density housing development was centred around light rail transit stations.
The urban design concepts emphasized innovative social and environmental considerations. These included energy, water and waste management and landscape design to ensure sustainable development, consistent with the technological and commercial imperatives of the MFP.
The resulting urban forms are exemplary of Australian settlement for the next millennium. The work was awarded a Royal Australia Planning Institute award.
