Pitt Street Waterfront Precinct, Taree Australia

HBO+EMTBs design proposes to create a new vibrant riverfront community. With the Pacific Highway now out of the town, it was important to contribute to the remaking of Taree as a destination, not a throughway.

This sustainable hub of activity, accommodating working, living, tourism and recreation uses related to the water, creates a generous new public realm for Taree with new connections and linkages between the site, the existing town centre and the river. The design incorporates a new foreshore street and walk to engage with the waterfront, and a cultural and retail market precinct focussed around the dairy heritage buildings, and a new foreshore plaza. The design builds on the special historic features of the site that make the place unique, and capitalises on the beautiful setting, creating new views to the water and to the parkland. The site's ecological attributes are showcased by restoring and protecting natural systems such as the creek corridor and the mangrove edge.
